Emetophobia Support with Richard

Stop Letting the Fear of Being Sick Control Your Life

Emetophobia can affect what you eat, where you go, who you spend time with and how safe you feel.

Discover how Richard’s personalised Anxiety Breakthrough Formula could help you understand and change the patterns keeping the fear in place.

If You Live With Emetophobia, You Know It Is About Much More Than Being Sick

Emetophobia is an intense fear of vomiting, feeling sick or seeing somebody else be sick.

For some people, even hearing the word, seeing sickness on television or knowing that somebody nearby feels unwell can trigger anxiety. Emetophobia is recognised as a type of phobia, and phobias can cause severe anxiety, physical sensations and avoidance.

You may spend much of your day trying to prevent something that might never happen.

You may check food carefully, avoid people who have been ill or become frightened by every sensation in your stomach.

The fear is real. The physical sensations are real. The effect on your confidence, relationships and everyday choices is real too.

You may know logically that the fear is out of proportion, but that does not make the automatic reaction disappear.

You are not being silly, dramatic or difficult.

Emetophobia Can Affect Many Parts of Your Life

Fear of Vomiting

You feel frightened that you may be sick, even when there is no clear reason to believe it will happen.

Fear of Feeling Nauseous

Normal stomach sensations can quickly become a warning that something is wrong.

Fear of Other People Being Sick

You may avoid children, social events, hospitals, public transport or anyone who says they feel unwell.

Food Anxiety

You may limit what you eat, check dates repeatedly or avoid food prepared by other people.

Illness and Contamination Fears

You may worry about germs, food poisoning, stomach bugs or being near somebody who has recently been ill.

Body Checking

You repeatedly monitor your stomach, throat, temperature or appetite for signs of sickness.

Reassurance-Seeking

You may ask other people whether food is safe, whether you look unwell or whether they think you will be sick.

Travel Anxiety

Cars, aeroplanes, boats and public transport may feel frightening because you worry that you or somebody else could become unwell.

Social Avoidance

Restaurants, parties, holidays and events involving alcohol may feel too risky.

Fear of Losing Control

You may worry that being sick would leave you trapped, embarrassed, unable to escape or unable to cope.

Panic and Physical Anxiety

The fear itself may cause nausea, a racing heart, shaking, dizziness or an urgent need to leave.

Sleep and Night-Time Anxiety

You may struggle to settle if you notice a stomach sensation or worry that somebody in the house could become ill overnight.

You may experience several of these difficulties together. Richard’s approach is personalised around how emetophobia affects you.

Break Free From Emetophobia

“Hi Richard,

Just wanted to say a big thank you for the last 7 weeks. This has been an amazing journey and feel that I am in a place that I have never been before. When I came to see you abut my emetophobia I was at my lowest I have ever been! The sessions have a huge impact in my life not only with my emetophobia but in my day to day life.

I can now see my future without the day to day worrying about sick!

Big thank you and I will be back for sure, as the hour on the couch is a great way to get perspective on all things challenging in life!

Thanks again
All the best
Matt”

Emetophobia Can Create a Powerful Anxiety Loop

The fear is often kept going by a repeating pattern.

1. Something Triggers the Fear

You notice a stomach sensation, hear that somebody is unwell or encounter food or a situation that feels risky.

2. Your Mind Predicts the Worst

You think:

“What if I am going to be sick?”
“What if that food was not safe?”
“What if somebody is ill near me?”
“What if I cannot get away?”

3. Your Body Reacts

Anxiety may create nausea, tension, a dry mouth, dizziness or changes in your breathing.

These sensations can then feel like proof that the feared event is about to happen.

4. You Try to Feel Safe

You may avoid the food or situation, check your body, seek reassurance, leave early or stay close to an exit.

5. You Feel Temporary Relief

Once the situation has been escaped or avoided, the anxiety reduces.

6. The Fear Becomes Stronger Next Time

Your mind may learn that avoiding the situation protected you, making it feel even more dangerous in the future.

Avoidance and safety behaviours can reduce anxiety temporarily while helping a phobic pattern continue.

The problem is not that you are choosing to be frightened.

It is that the response has become automatic.

Perhaps You Have Tried Everything You Can Think Of

You may have tried:

  • Counselling
  • CBT
  • Medication
  • Breathing exercises
  • Distraction techniques
  • Meditation
  • Self-help books and podcaste
  • Avoiding certain foods
  • Checking expiry dates repeatedly
  • Carrying medication or emergency supplies
  • Asking others for reassurance
  • Staying close to home
  • Trying to reason with yourself
  • Forcing yourself not to think about sickness

Some of these approaches may have helped you understand or manage the fear.

But you may still find that one stomach sensation, illness story or unexpected event pulls you back into the same reaction.

That does not mean you have failed.

It may mean that the personal pattern surrounding your emetophobia still needs to be understood and addressed.

Don’t Just Organise Your Life Around the Fear

The Anxiety Breakthrough Formula is Richard’s personalised eight-session programme for people who feel controlled by anxiety, fear and avoidance.

Rather than assuming that everybody experiences emetophobia in the same way, Richard begins by understanding your individual experience.

Together, you may explore:

  • When and where the fear appears
  • What situations trigger it
  • What you believe would happen if somebody were sick
  • How physical sensations affect your thinking
  • What you check, avoid or plan around
  • How you try to make yourself feel safe
  • How the fear has affected your confidence
  • What you want to be able to do differently

The aim is to help you understand your personal anxiety loop, respond differently to triggers and begin rebuilding trust in yourself.

Your sessions will move at an appropriate pace and focus on changes that matter in your everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take before I start to feel a difference?

Many clients tell me they begin to feel better during the consultation itself. Having their symptoms properly explained, gaining a clearer understanding of what is happening and seeing why they feel the way they do can be enlightening.

For some people, it is the first time in a long time that they have felt there may genuinely be light at the end of the tunnel.

How much does the programme cost, and can I pay in instalments?

The full programme costs £999.

You can pay in full or spread the cost across three payments of £333.

We can discuss the payment options during your consultation so that everything is clear before you make a decision.

How do I know this will work for me when other things haven’t?

Our approach is different because we focus on how you may be unintentionally creating and maintaining your anxiety symptoms.

Together, we identify your individual anxiety formula so that you can understand exactly what keeps the cycle going and learn how to reverse it.

Once you can see your formula in action, you cannot unsee it. That understanding can be incredibly freeing and allows you to begin stepping away from the patterns that have been keeping your symptoms alive.

Is my problem too severe, complicated or long-standing to change?

Many people worry that their situation is different, too complicated or has been going on for too long.

When you have tried several things and your symptoms keep returning, it is completely understandable to feel doubtful or believe that nothing will work for you.

During the consultation, I will listen carefully to your situation and explain honestly how I may be able to help. I will also tell you if I do not believe my programme is right for you, so that you leave with a clearer understanding of your next steps and how you can move forward.

Do I need to book a consultation before starting?

Yes. It is important that the programme feels right for you and that I am confident I can help.

The consultation gives us both an opportunity to talk through your situation, explore what you would like to change and decide whether working together is the right next step.

What happens during the free consultation, and will I be pressured to go ahead?

The consultation is a free, friendly and informative conversation. It is simply an opportunity for you to explain what has been happening, ask questions and find out more about how the programme works. There is no pressure and no obligation to go ahead. The purpose is to help you understand your options and decide what feels right for you.
